Productronica showcases the industry’s latest innovations, discover this years highlights
This year saw 44,000 attendees from 42 countries attend Productronica (the sister show on Electronica) for the latest developments in all aspects of electronics manufacturing and services. The exhibition was held in Munich from 14th – 17th November and was a tie-up with IT2Industry and Semicon Europa, the annual show of global semiconductor trade association Semi.
The exhibition featured 1,200 exhibitors across five categories: EMS and PCB, SMT, Cables, Coils and Hybrids, Future Markets and Semiconductors.
EMS and PCB
Productronica plays host to the electronic manufacturing services (EMS) and PCB manufacturing, covering everything from the manufacture of circuit substrates to the system solutions of EMS service providers. Highlights included Atotech, the Schmid Group and Schmoll Maschinen.
SMT
Surface mount technology (SMT) was a key focus this year and was featured in the biggest zone of the show. Exhibitors presented the entire SMT value chain form placement, soldering, measuring and testing to product finishing. Highlights included ASM Assembly, Fuji Machine and Yamaha Motor.
Cables, Coils and Hybrids
This year has seen a huge focus on wireless technology and machine control, however visitors of Productronica saw how cables are continuing to play a crucial role in the manufacturing and production process. Highlights included” Japan Automatic Machine, Komax, the Schafer Group and Schleungier.
Future Markets
The industries most topical segments were presented at the Future Markets Cluster, covering topics such as Industry 4.0, the smart factory, IoT and 3D printing. This exhibit was organised by IT2Industry which is now integrated in to the Productronica exhibition which featured solutions for internet of things such as big data, It security and cloud computing. This was the second year the IT2Industry exhibition took place alongside Productronica and it has been confirmed that it will be apart of Automatica 2018 next year.
Semiconductors
The Semicon Europa Semiconductors cluster was a new addition this year, it focused on suppliers and new development in manufacturing, LEDs, discrete components and micro-nano production.
The exhibition hosted a wealth of keynote speakers renowned in the industry, including: Airbus, Bosch, Cambridge University, GE, Infineon, NXP and Volkswagen.
