Where it all began

1964 – The company was founded as Semikron Rectifiers & Electronics Ltd, as part of HCD Research Ltd and was associated with Semikron in Germany, selling their products

1969 – Our company was renamed to Goodacre and Davenport Semiconductors Ltd in 1969, following Semikron setting up their own company. The company then added the Brown Boveri (later known as ABB-IXYS) semiconductor range to it’s products, in addition to Semikron

1985 – We separated from HCD Research and was renamed GD Rectifiers Ltd, then in 1990 came into ownership with Takbro

1994 – GD Rectifiers transformed in to an all-encompassing semiconductor stockist, becoming an authorised distributor for IXYS, IXYS UK Westcode, IXYS Colorado and IXYS Power alongside Semikron. Providing an improved product portfolio of semiconductors from two of the world’s leading manufacturers

A manufacturer in the making

1998 – GD Rectifiers changed ownership with current Managing Director, Paul Bentley acquiring the company. Since his appointment, over the last 20 years we have become official distributors for Sirio, Telcon, Mersen, Bussmann, API Capacitors, Ocram, EDI and UAL adding many new product lines from circuit protection devices and passive components to traction converters and subsystems

2002 – We launched a power assembly manufacturing facility, offering a wide range of single-phase, three-phase and hex-phase assemblies

2007 – Our in-house heatsink manufacturing facility launched, offering an extensive range of aluminium heatsinks such as forced-air cooled, water cooled, oil cooled and customised heatsinks

2009 – We launched our second website to help engineers and purchasers find the right products with our technical support and expertise

New beginnings

2015 – The year we built and started operating from a new modern, 12,000 sq ft state-of-the-art factory and office in Burgess Hill designed by our very own team

2017 – We became an official distributor for the Enerdoor Group who specialise in electromagnetic solutions for automated and industrial machinery. By becoming a distributor for Enerdoor, GD Rectifiers added EMI-RFI filters, motor protection, harmonic filters, line reactors, surge arresters and voltage stabilisers to the portfolio

2017 – Our partnership with KONČAR began, we became an official distributor for the leading manufacturer of power electronics, protection, measurement and ripple control systems and devices for equipping complex plants in energetic, industry and transport. This enabled us to add traction converters and subsystems to our ever growing portfolio

2023 – An exciting year so far, we launched our new brochure website designed to make component shopping easier for engineers, buyers and hobbyists by giving customers direct access to product data, applications, and compliance information online

Today, GD Rectifiers supports the global power electronics marketplace

Providing thermal management solutions for a wide range of industrial applications including railway traction, HVDC, renewable energy, aviation, medical, laser, welding, and automotive.
