Introducing KONČAR's three trackside converters

KONČAR design and manufacture trackside power electronic converters for substations. KONČAR’s trackside converters are fed with energy from overhead line (25kV, 50Hz over transformer or 3kV DC). The primary function of the trackside converters is to supply various loads in substations – power supply for integrated lighting and information systems, railway signaling and protection systems.

KONČAR offer three trackside converters: KONTRAC PN 30 ACKONTRAC PN 50 DC/ PN 100 DC and KONTRAC PN 225 AC.

 

Trackside Auxiliary Converter Fed by Overhead Line – KONTRAC PN 30 AC

The KONTRAC PN 30 AC is used to supply various loads inside the substation facilities, including power supply for integrated lighting and information systems, railway signaling and protection systems. The converter is fed by 25kV, 50Hz overhead line. The overhead line might generate spikes, sags and surges caused by the current drawn from locomotives which are likely to damage the input stages of conventional converters.

This converter is primarily intended to be used as a backup energy source in case power outage is caused from the distribution network. The converter can also be implemented as a primary power source when there is a poor or no distribution network available on site.

Trackside Auxiliary Converter Fed by Overhead Line – KONTRAC PN 50 DC / PN 100 DC

 

The KONTRAC PN 50 DC / PN 100 DC converter is used to supply various loads inside the substation facilities including power supply for integrated lighting and information systems, railway signaling and protection systems. The converter is fed by 3kV DC overhead line, it is predominantly used as a backup energy source but can also be used as a primary source in replacement of a poor distribution network.

Trackside Converter for Dynamic Reactive Power Compensation – KONTRAC PN 225 AC

The KONTRAC PN 225 AC is a trackside converter which is used for dynamic reactive power compensation. it is used in substation facilities 110kV/25kV in which devices for fixed reactive power compensation have already been installed. The converter compensates variable amount of reactive power which can fluctuate considerably during a certain time period. The range of compensated reactive power of each converter is from 225kVAr capacitive to 225kVAr inductive.

If a higher range of compensated reactive power is needed, it can be accomplished by parallel connection of several converters. The input stage of the converter is made up of robust components dimensioned for rolling stock converter applications which makes this converter resistant to spikes, sags and surges that are likely to appear in overhead lines. The KONTRAC PN 225 AC enables significant reduction of excessive reactive power and associated costs, making it a perfect solution for sustainable development.
