Engineering Design Show 2019: The Round Up
Published on: 23/10/2019
Discover the highlights from this year’s dedicated show for engineers
The Engineering Design Show 2019 took place earlier this month, from 16th – 17th October at the Ericsson Exhibition Hall, Richoh Arena in Coventry.
EDS is the only show entirely dedicated to engineering, electronics and embedded design. Celebrating the shows eighth year, the exhibition boasted 200 exhibitors, 27 industry speakers and 33 practical workshops. The show continues to innovate and excite visitors each year and this year was no exception, with the shows introduction of a new augmented reality function.
Robotics Innovation Hub
The Robotics Innovation Hub showcased the very latest in robotics design and technology from award winning companies and start-ups. The interactive space included demonstrations of robotics from Applied Automation Comau and Makerbot.
Future Zone
The Future Zone returned this year, visitors were able to discover how the latest VR technology from RiVR is changing the way humans learn. RiVR can capture any location and recreate it in photorealistic virtual reality, allowing users to interact with and experience these worlds, enhancing the way humans learn.
Meetings Tool
A unique tool launched this year enabled the organisers to facilitate one-to-one meetings, with visitors, exhibitors and speakers were all able to pre-book meetings with key industry contacts at times convenient for them. The meetings tool was fully searchable by company as well as area of interest and allowed users to maximise time at the show and increase their return on investment by ensuring their diary was full of meetings.
Engineering Design Show 2019: This Year’s Highlights
1) 3M’s Ben Watson discussed the challenges of developing the cultural drivers for innovation to thrive and balance innovation outcomes over time.
2) David Paton from Wither’s & Rogers showed visitors how intellectual property (IP) can be used in different ways and how as a business, you need to be clear on your IP strategy and understand how IP can add value to your business.
3) ABB’s David Nicholl discusses the drive towards zero emissions transport and how we will need a well-established, integrated ecosystem made up of multiple components to achieve the ultimate goal.
4) Microsoft highlighted the importance of securing the billions of IoT devices to help protect data, privacy, physical safety and infrastructure when those devices become a gateway to our homes, workplaces and sensitive data.
5) Siemens Software Solutions’ Konstantin Klioutchinski discusses agile development in mechatronics products based on theory and best practice, using real world project examples.
EDS has confirmed it will return in 2020 at the Richoh Arena, Coventry from 14th – 15th October.
