High Voltage Encapsulated Diodes

GD Rectifiers designs, reverse engineers and manufactures high power encapsulated rectifiers. These encapsulated modules are designed to provide high voltages at low current levels in a well insulated package. They are designed for use as mains frequency rectifiers or DC blocking diodes. They have been used for applications such as HV Power Supplies, Radio and TV Transmitters, Radar sets, RF Heating and Electrostatic Precipitators. The rectifiers are made using series connected avalanche diodes, which get over the necessity of using voltage sharing components if ordinary diodes were to be used. It should be noted that the use of avalanche diodes also gives the modules a limited transient absorption capacity to deal with reverse voltage transients. The diodes are mounted on glass fibre circuit boards and then encapsulated with a UL94 – V0 epoxy resin. Since we make our own moulds and the building and testing is all in house we can offer a bespoke service to anyone who wants a specific product.

Our range comprises the J-Module series of standard screw connected modular rectifiers and a range of purpose built rectangular modules. These rectangular modules usually have holes or blind tapped bushes for mounting purposes and can be used as a direct replacement to the IXYS range.

If required the modules can be connected in series for higher voltage ratings or in parallel for higher current ratings, although when connected in parallel the combined current ratings should be reduced by 20%. Our module’s part numbers indicate the circuit configuration, the maximum AC RMS input voltage and the maximum DC output current. E.g. part number V 7500 – 2.6 has a voltage doubler configuration with a maximum input voltage of 7,500 Volts RMS and an output current rating of 2.6 Amps DC. Unless specified otherwise the reverse breakdown voltage of the module is usually twice the peak value of the recommended maximum input voltage.
